The Sacramento Bee -- April 1, 1997
Bipartisan Bickering
I am saddened that John Jacobs chooses to help perpetuate
the bipartisan bickering that is politics in the '90s.
Jabobs' admission that Vice President Al Gore's trip to
the state Capitol was "clearly partisan," immediately
followed by finger-pointing at Republican Assemblymen
Jim Battin and Brett Granlund for what he also admits is
"legal fund raising," is a childish trick worthy of a
primary school playground.
Jabobs could have pointed out that by giving a recycled
speech, Gore forced us to pay for his travel expenses.
He also could have pointed out that our full-time
legislators have so much time on their hands they can
wander the K Steet Mall scalping tickets.
What Gore did is what a child does when he takes lemonade
from the kitchen to sell in the front yard. Maybe the kid
makes a $1.50, but it cost the parents $2 worth of lemonade
and a lot of cleanup. What our legislators did was throw
a tantrum. What the Bee should do is spank them both.
