Katrina Yeaw vs. BSA
---------------- As Published -----------------------------------
The parents of Katrina Yeaw were extremely short sighted in their
desire to have their daughter admitted to the Boy Scouts. They
seem to want to repeat the folly of the US armed services. By
putting their daughter amongst a pack of testosterone overloaded
teenagers, they are just begging to have her come home pregnant
or be sexually harassed, or God-forbid, raped.
If the military's trained leaders can't keep
legally responsible soldiers from disobeying sexual harassment
and predator laws, how can these parents expect volunteer
BSA leaders to maintain control of youth?

The parents of Katrina Yeaw are extremely short sighted in their
desire to have their daughter admitted to the Boy Scouts. They
seem to want to repeat the folly of the US armed services. By
putting their daughter amongst a pack of testosterone overloaded
teenagers, they are just begging to have her come home pregnant
or be sexually harassed, or God-forbid, raped. We've seen
adult behavior in similiar situations: one in eight female
soldiers come back pregnant, sexual harassment at Tailhook,
recruits being raped at Aberdeen. Do they think teenagers
are going to have more self control than our soldiers?
If the military's trained leaders can't keep
legally responsible soldiers from disobeying sexual harassment
and predator laws, how can these parents expect volunteer
BSA leaders to maintain control of youth who are protected
from full prosecution because of their age? What loving
parent is willing to take chances like that with their daughter?
And who are they going to sue when something does happen to
their daughter? The BSA? The volunteer leaders? The campground?
Personally, I think the Department of Social Services should
keep an eye on the Yeaws for possible child endangerment violations.
