Federal Computer Games
In their effort to save millions of dollars in lost productivity
of federal employees, the US Senate has just approved a measure
requiring that electronic games be removed from federal computers,
and prohibiting the federal government from purchasing new computers
that have games installed. Just like the "War on Drugs", and the
"War on Poverty", this "War on Solitaire" will prove to have
unintended consequences, and will end up costing more than it saves.
Almost all computer operating systems come with
games installed, so our senators have just created a reseller market
for someone to buy PC's, remove the games and mark them up for resale
to the feds. The feds will have expensive computers because they
are no longer buying "off the shelf", and they
will pay a premium to the vendor who verifies the product meets
their specs.
