Re "To Libertarians goes Republicans' winning edge," Other views, Nov. 20: National Review
author John Miller says that should Libertarians wonder why the Bush tax cut is not
permanent, Social Security is not personalized, and why there aren't more school-choice
pilot programs, they should look in the mirror. As a Libertarian, I do look in the
mirror, and I congratulate myself and my fellow Libertarians.
The Bush tax cut should not be permanent because the income tax should not be permanent.
The income tax itself is incompatible with freedom. Social Security should not be
personalized because the program should be voluntary. If a private investment company ran
Social Security, the CEO would be jailed for running a Ponzi Scheme. I personally don't
want to be on the bottom end when the ratio of payers to beneficiaries reaches 3 to 1,
like it will in my lifetime. There should be no more school-choice pilot programs because
the federal government has no reason to be in the elementary school business, that is an
issue left to the several States.
Libertarians will continue to take the "winning edge" until the candidates return to
running government according to the rules that "We the People" adopted in our
Constitution.
