Special Interest Postage

Re "Bill links stamps, breast cancer fight," May 8:
Funding for breast cancer research is certainly a valiant cause,
but why should the government get involved in the fund-raising
efforts for private research?
Dr. Balazs Bodai's estimated $200 million return will
soon be $100 million after the Sierra Club gets its own stamp,
then $50 million when NOW and AARP get theirs. Eventually, we
would wind up with a multitude of new stamps and a post office
overrun by accounting and inventory headaches and lawsuits from
groups, such as the "Friends of Three-Legged-Poodles," who are
denied their own stamp.
Good intentions and politics aside, this idea stinks. I'll
send my money directly to the charity of my choice.
